With Western Union, sending money is quick, easy and safe. The recipient can claim the money within a few minutes of dispatch.* Receivers are not required to pay any charges.*

Benefits

As a Western Union® Money Transfer customer, you will be able to

  •  send and receive money quickly, easily and safely
  • draw upon the resources of the world’s largest money transfer network, with more than 400,000 Agent locations in over 200 countries
  • call the Western Union Customer Service Centre for assistance toll-free, open daily year-round from 9:00 to 21:00.

Using the service is easy

Sending money:

  1. Go to your nearest Matkahuolto terminal or Matkahuolto agent offering Western Union services. To find the location nearest you, click agent locator.
  2. Complete the ‘To Send Money’ form.
  3. Give the agent the amount of money to be sent and pay the transaction fee. Always present a valid proof of identity when making the payment.
  4. The money transfer is then carried out and registered in Western Union’s money transfer system.
  5. When the transfer has been completed, you will be given a receipt with a 10-digit Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN). After this, the money can be claimed by the receiver. The receiver does not have to know the MTCN number*. However, it is advisable to share the number with the receiver because the number makes it easier to find the transfer in the system. Note that some countries may require that the receiver present the MTCN number when claiming the money.
  6.  The receiver may claim the money without identifying* the agent in the receiving country. The receiver simply fills out the *To Receive Money* form and presents a valid ID to prove that he or she is the correct receiver.

Claiming money:

  1. Go to your nearest Matkahuolto terminal or Matkahuolto agent offering Western Union services. To find the location nearest you, click agent locator.
  2. Complete the ‘To Receive Money’ form by providing the requested information: country from which the money has been sent, sender’s name, amount sent and the MTCN number (Money Transfer Control Number) to find the transfer in the system
  3. Present a valid ID to prove that you are the receiver. If you do not have a valid ID, you have to answer a test question defined by the sender. In this situation, you must also show a copy of a police report concerning your lost ID. The police report may not be more than two months old.
  4. Sign the form and the money is yours.
