One app for public transport – plan every trip with the Matkat app

When the Finnish summer calls, the Matkat app is the best place to start your adventure.
Did you know that with the Matkat app you can get almost all public transport tickets – not just long-distance bus tickets? It brings together long-distance buses, trains, local and commuter transport as well as ferry connections to Åland, Stockholm and Tallinn. In March, Viking Line ferry routes to Åland, Tallinn and Stockholm were added to the app. During June, the selection will expand to include connections from Eckerö Line and Tallink Silja Line.
How to plan your trip
Simply enter your departure and destination address in the app, and it will suggest suitable routes and timetables. If there’s no direct connection, the app creates a smooth travel chain using multiple modes of transport. You can even purchase all your tickets for different transport options in one go.

Growing demand for bus travel – new routes being added
Bus travel demand has grown during the first part of the year. Sales of Matkahuolto single tickets have increased by 15% compared to last year.
At the same time, long-distance service frequency has grown by 6%, and new routes have opened around Finland. These include, for example, a new connection from Helsinki to Hanko, weekend services from Lappeenranta via Mikkeli to Jyväskylä, from Mikkeli to Savonlinna, from Kuopio via Iisalmi to Kajaani, as well as from Jyväskylä via Kuopio to Joensuu and from Joensuu to Lappeenranta.
One reason for this growing popularity is the rising cost of car travel.
For many, public transport is an easy, relaxing and economical way to travel.
