We deliver your parcel within 1–3 business days. The delivery time for Express Parcels is shown when purchasing the service.

All types and sizes of products can be sent to and from Åland by selecting international parcels in the online store or app. Parcels sent from mainland Finland to Åland and from Åland to mainland Finland are subject to a ferry surcharge per consignment. Prices are displayed on our website

VAT practices in Åland

Payments for Åland differ from the rest of Finland. Currently, VAT is not payable if the price of the consignment is less than €22. However, this limit does not apply to tobacco products, alcohol, alcoholic beverages or perfumes. Consignments containing these goods must always be cleared through customs, regardless of their value.

If the value of the consignment is more than €22 but less than or equal to €150, you will have to pay VAT, but no customs duty. However, you must clear the consignment through customs. A consignment is duty-free if the total value of the goods it contains does not exceed €150. However, this limit does not apply to alcoholic products, tobacco, tobacco products, perfumes or eau de toilette products. Consignments containing these goods must always be cleared through customs, regardless of their value.

If the value of the consignment exceeds €150, you must clear the consignment through customers and pay both VAT and customs duty. As a rough rule of thumb, customs clearance will increase the price of your order by around 30%.

This price consists of the purchase price of the product, transport costs, VAT and any customs duty payable. Use the Customs Duty Calculator provided by Finnish Customs to find out an estimate of customs duty and VAT.

Customs clearance and payment of VAT

Consignments sent from mainland Finland to Åland are tax-free. When shipping from mainland Finland to Åland, our recommendation is that the consignee in Åland makes the customs declaration and pays the taxes on the Finnish Customs website.

At a parcel point, you can send and receive parcels of all sizes. When shipping from Åland, the consignor must pay all taxes and charges before the parcel can be sent.

Parcel delivery

The parcel will be handed over to the recipient upon presentation of a receipt/certificate of taxes paid. You can also pay the taxes and charges for your consignment at a parcel point.

Shipping bicycles is only possible with the XXL Flex service. The bicycle must be fully packed within the maximum dimensions. When properly protected, the bicycle will withstand handling and transport without damage.

If you are sending a bicycle, make sure to get a bike bag designed for transporting bicycles or a sufficiently large cardboard box/protective cardboard to cover the entire bicycle and its delicate parts.

  • The maximum length for an XXL Flex parcel is 240 cm, and the length + width + height can be a maximum of 360 cm, with a weight limit of 35 kg.

  • An electric bicycle can be shipped, as electric bicycles are exempt from regulations concerning the transport of dangerous goods.

The Car Tyre Set service is designed for shipping car tyres. It includes pick up and delivery to the recipient. You cannot add COD on The Car Tyre Set-service.

  • A Car Tyre Set may include up to 5 parcels (4 tyres and accessories). The maximum dimensions of a single parcel are 80 cm x 80 cm x 30 cm and the maximum total weight 120 kg.

  • The tyres must be packed separately according to Matkahuolto’s packaging instructions, the rims must be protected with cardboard and each tyre placed in a tyre bag. Studded tyres must be protected throughout, e.g. with corrugated cardboard.

The Framed Painting service is designed for sending paintings or other flat objects matching the specified dimensions.

  • The maximum dimensions of a Framed Painting are 10 cm x 120 cm x 150 cm and the maximum weight 10 kg.

By purchasing a multi-parcel, you get ten shipments that are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

  • The MultiParcel service can be used for all shipment sizes.

  • When you make a purchase, you need to enter your own sender details in the Matkahuolto online service. To use a purchased shipment, log in to the online service, choose the MultiParcel service and enter the recipient’s details.

  • You will then receive an activation code to send your parcel.

Extra service for XXS parcels. The service allows delivery of items directly to the recipient’s mailbox.

  • Maximum weight 1 kg

  • Maximum size 3 cm x 25 cm x 40 cm

  • Several parcels cannot be included in the same consignment.

  • XXS parcels are delivered to the recipient’s mailbox within 2-4 business days.

  • Recipient’s address required

  • If the delivery fails, the consignment will be returned to the Matkahuolto pick-up point for collection. The recipient will be notified by text message or email when the parcel is available for pick up.

  • No extra services

  • Parcels may not contain any live animals, firearms, perishable products or any content in contravention of the General Conditions of Carriage.

Our new Express Parcel is taken by bus from one place to another within the same day. The service is available 24 hours a day, anywhere in Finland.

Express Parcel features

  • Maximum parcel weight 20 kg.

  • Maximum parcel dimensions 60 cm x 60 cm x 150 cm.   

  • Up to 5 parcels per consignment. 

  • Express Parcels are purchased from the Paketit Business Portal for a specific bus service. 

  • Express Parcels are handed to the driver, and the recipient picks up the parcel directly from the driver on the bus. 

  • The recipient is informed of the arrival of the parcel and the time of arrival by a notification in the Paketit app or by a text message when the parcel has been placed on board the bus. The recipient can pick up the parcel using a pick-up code. 

  • It is essential that the recipient is there to meet the bus. If the parcel cannot be delivered, the Express Parcel is taken to a service point near the recipient within 2–3 business days for collection.

  • 7-day storage time. 

  • Extra services: Extended Storage Time.

Pick-up from Door is an extra service where we collect the outgoing parcel from your doorstep.

  • The pick-up takes place Monday-Friday between 8.00 and 16.00 without prior notice.

  • Normally, parcels are picked up at the sender’s address on the following workday, but no later than on the second workday after the order.

  • Parcel pick-up can only be purchased online.

Business Parcel and Home Parcel
  • Home Parcel is an extra service where we deliver the parcel to the recipient’s door. The delivery time is agreed with the recipient in advance, and delivery is also possible in the evening and on weekends.

  • Business Parcel is an extra service where we deliver the parcel to the recipient’s door Monday-Friday between 8.00 and 16.00 without any agreed delivery time.

  • The recipient can use Track & Trace to see where the parcel is at any given time.

Handle with Care is an extra service designed for parcels containing fragile items.

  • When using the Handle with Care service, pack the consignment with sufficient care and in a manner appropriate to its contents. See more information on packing parcels

  • The Handle with Care service can only be purchased from Matkahuolto’s website and Paketit app. The package can be dropped off at any Matkahuolto parcel point.

You can transfer a parcel that has arrived at a pick-up point to a more convenient pick-up point when logged in under Incoming parcels. The transferred parcel becomes a new shipment, and you can track it using a new tracking number.

The service costs €6.90.

We notify the recipient via a notification in the Matkahuolto Paketit app, by text message or email when the parcel is ready for pick-up.

The recipient can collect the parcel from a pick-up point using a pick-up code. You can copy the code from the Paketit app and share it with, for example, your partner, a friend or your mother – they can pick up the parcel for you using the code. You can also forward the arrival notification received by text message to someone else for collection. No power of attorney is required.

A parcel delivered to a parcel locker can be picked up using a locker code, which we send to the recipient in the arrival notification via app notification, text message or email. Some parcel lockers operate with the Matkahuolto Paketit app.

The storage period for parcels is 7 days, after which unclaimed parcels will be returned to the sender. The consignee can easily extend the storage period by 7, 14 or 21 days online after you have registered as a Matkahuolto customer.

You can use the parcel locker to send and receive parcels with a maximum size of 35 kg and 70 x 40 x 55 cm. For parcels with a maximum size of 30 kg and maximum- length of 200 cm, you have to go to the other parcel points of Matkahuolto. Parcels larger than this will be picked up from you and delivered to the recipient's door when you purchase transport for it from the Paketit app or Matkahuolto's online service.

A parcel may not contain any live animals, perishable products, dangerous goods or other content in contravention of the General Conditions of Carriage.

According to our service terms, we charge the sender for the costs incurred from the return. You will receive a notification by text message or in the Paketit app, where you can choose the return handling option and pay the delivery cost for the parcel being returned to you. You can also choose the pick-up point for the return that suits you best.

You can easily verify the authenticity of the payment link by using the tracking number in parcel tracking.

If you do not wish to pay the return costs, you can authorize Matkahuolto to recycle the shipment in an appropriate manner.
