Domestic Parcels

Sending parcels

  1. Choose Send parcel to purchase delivery for your parcel.

  2. Write the activation code you received in the order confirmation as well as the name, address and telephone number of the sender and recipient clearly on the parcel.

  3. Alternatively, you can print the address card attached to the order confirmation and glue it to the parcel.

  4. Take your parcel during the next seven days to any Matkahuolto parcel locker or service outlet which number almost 2,000 around Finland. Use the Service Point Search to look up the nearest service outlet.

  5. To track the progress of your parcel using the consignment number, go to Track & Trace.

  6. You can also purchase delivery at a Matkahuolto terminal or Matkahuolto agent outlet.

Special deliveries and extra services


All types and sizes of products can be sent to and from Åland. Parcels sent from mainland Finland to Åland and from Åland to mainland Finland are subject to a ferry surcharge per consignment. Prices are displayed on our website

VAT practices in Åland

Payments for Åland differ from the rest of Finland. Currently, VAT is not payable if the price of the consignment is less than €22. However, this limit does not apply to tobacco products, alcohol, alcoholic beverages or perfumes. Consignments containing these goods must always be cleared through customs, regardless of their value.

If the value of the consignment is more than €22 but less than or equal to €150, you will have to pay VAT, but no customs duty. However, you must clear the consignment through customs. A consignment is duty-free if the total value of the goods it contains does not exceed €150. However, this limit does not apply to alcoholic products, tobacco, tobacco products, perfumes or eau de toilette products. Consignments containing these goods must always be cleared through customs, regardless of their value.

If the value of the consignment exceeds €150, you must clear the consignment through customers and pay both VAT and customs duty. As a rough rule of thumb, customs clearance will increase the price of your order by around 30%.

This price consists of the purchase price of the product, transport costs, VAT and any customs duty payable. Use the Customs Duty Calculator provided by Finnish Customs to find out an estimate of customs duty and VAT .

The customs clearance process will change on 1 July 2021, as of which date VAT will be charged on all consignments.


Customs clearance and payment of VAT

Consignments sent from mainland Finland to Åland are tax-free. When shipping from mainland Finland to Åland, our recommendation is that the consignee in Åland makes the customs declaration and pays the taxes on the Finnish Customs website.


Matkahuolto’s customer service outlet in Åland

At the customer service outlet, you can send and receive parcels of all sizes. When shipping from Åland, the consignor must pay all taxes and charges before the parcel can be sent.


Parcel delivery

The parcel will be handed over to the recipient upon presentation of a receipt/certificate of taxes paid. You can also pay the taxes and charges for your consignment at a customer service outlet.

The Bicycle service can contain one bicycle that can be walked and identified as a bicycle.

  • The maximum length of the bicycle is 230 cm, the maximum width of the bar 80 cm and the maximum weight 35 kg.

  • You can also send an electric bicycle, but only without a battery.

  • Special bicycles such as adaptive bicycles, recumbent bicycles, tandem bicycles and tricycles, as well as bicycles packed in a sealed cardboard box, cannot be sent as a Bicycle shipment.

  • The price for the carriage of a bicycle packed completely in a box is determined according to the size of the parcel.

The Car Tyre Set service is designed for shipping car tyres.

  • A Car Tyre Set may include up to 5 parcels (4 tyres and accessories). The maximum dimensions of a single parcel are 80 cm x 80 cm x 30 cm and the maximum total weight 120 kg.

  • The tyres must be packed separately according to Matkahuolto’s packaging instructions, the rims must be protected with cardboard and each tyre placed in a tyre bag. Studded tyres must be protected throughout, e.g. with corrugated cardboard.

The Framed Painting service is designed for sending paintings or other flat objects matching the specified dimensions.

  • The maximum dimensions of a Framed Painting are 10 cm x 120 cm x 150 cm and the maximum weight 10 kg.

The Ski Bag service is designed for sending skis, hockey sticks or other similar rod-like products.

  • The maximum dimensions of a Ski Bag are 20 cm x 20 cm x 230 cm and the maximum weight 10 kg.

  • Skis must be packed in one bag, they cannot be sent unpacked.

By purchasing a multi-parcel, you get ten shipments that are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

  • The MultiParcel service can be used for all shipment sizes.

  • When you make a purchase, you need to enter your own sender details in the Matkahuolto online service. To use a purchased shipment, log in to the online service, choose the MultiParcel service and enter the recipient’s details.

  • You will then receive an activation code to send your parcel.

Extra service for XXS parcels. The service allows delivery of items directly to the recipient’s mailbox.

  • The maximum dimensions of a consignment delivered to a mailbox are 1 cm x 25 cm x 40 cm and maximum weight 1 kg.

  • The service is available in limited areas. In the online store, you can only choose it for parcels for which it can be purchased.

Express Parcel is an extra service designed for parcels requiring special speed. At best, the parcel will arrive within a few hours of dispatch.

  • An Express Parcel is scheduled at the time of dispatch, and you will be informed when it is available for collection by the recipient.

  • The Express Parcel service can only be purchased from Matkahuolto’s service points and agents of which there are a total of 370 throughout Finland.

Pick-up from Door is an extra service where we collect the outgoing parcel from your doorstep.

  • The pick-up takes place Monday-Friday between 8.00 and 16.00 without prior notice.

  • Normally, parcels are picked up at the sender’s address on the following workday, but no later than on the second workday after the order.

  • Parcel pick-up can only be purchased online.

Delivery Parcel and Home Delivery
  • Home Delivery is an extra service where we deliver the parcel to the recipient’s door. The delivery time is agreed with the recipient in advance, and delivery is also possible in the evening and on weekends.

  • Delivery Parcel is an extra service where we deliver the parcel to the recipient’s door Monday-Friday between 8.00 and 16.00 without any agreed delivery time.

  • The recipient can use Track & Trace to see where the parcel is at any given time.

Handle with Care is an extra service designed for parcels containing fragile items.

  • When using the Handle with Care service, pack the consignment with sufficient care and in a manner appropriate to its contents. See more information on packing parcels

  • The Handle with Care service can only be purchased from Matkahuolto’s service points and agents.

Cash-on-Delivery is an extra service where the parcel will only be handed over to the recipient after payment of the amount indicated by the sender. The Cash-on Delivery service can only be purchased from Matkahuolto’s service points and agents.

Prices for parcel services to consumer customers

Delivery time

We deliver your parcel within 1-3 business days. The express parcel is always scheduled at the time of shipment at the service point and will reach the recipient at best within a few hours.

Receiving parcels

When the parcel is available for pick-up, we will notify the consignee by SMS or email.
The consignee can receive the parcel by presenting identification: a driving license, passport or police-issued ID card or, if the parcel is picked up by someone other than the consignee, identification and a power of attorney.

The consignee can pick up a parcel sent to a parcel locker using the PIN code attached to the arrival notification sent by SMS or email to the consignee.

Storage period

The storage period for parcels is 7 days, after which unclaimed parcels will be returned to the sender. The consignee can easily extend the storage period by 7, 14 or 21 days online after you have registered as a Matkahuolto customer.

Limitations

You can use the parcel locker to send parcels with a maximum size of 35 kg and 70 x 40 x 55 cm and to pick up parcels with a maximum size of 30 kg and 70 x 40 x 55 cm. For parcels with a maximum size of 30 kg and 60 cm x 60 cm x 120 cm, you have to go to the other service outlets of Matkahuolto. To send and pick up even larger parcels, please go to a Matkahuolto terminal or Matkahuolto agent outlet. A parcel may not contain any live animals, perishable products, dangerous goods or other content in contravention of the General Conditions of Carriage.
