Pensioner ticket and pensioner card
Getting a pensioner card and card conditions
Pensioners are entitled to the pensioner discount upon presentation of a Matkahuolto Pensioner Card, a Social Insurance Institute Kela card with a photo and a Matkahuolto, VR or Finnair logo printed on it, the cardboard Pensioner Card issued by Kela, or an employment pension card issued by a Finnish employment pension insurance company. Any card without a photo must be accompanied by a driving license, passport or police-issued personal ID card. Individuals over 65 of age will be entitled to the discount on presentation of a driving license, passport or police-issued personal ID card. The discount will not be granted on presentation of the pension decision, a pension card issued by any organisation or the VR Pensioner Card alone.
Conditions for pensioner discount
Eligible for the pensioner discount are those in full-time retirement.
Persons on temporary pension or rehabilitation support are entitled to a pensioner discount for the duration of the period determined by the pension decision. In these cases, the Matkahuolto Pensioner Card can be purchased and it will be valid until the date of expiry of the decision and the validity period will be marked on the Pensioner Card. Should the temporary pension or rehabilitation support be extended, the Pensioner Card will be renewed accordingly, subject to a service fee.
Pensioner discounts are not granted to persons on a part-time pension, who therefore cannot purchase a Matkahuolto Pensioner Card.
Persons drawing pensions from EU countries other than Finland are entitled to Matkahuolto’s pensioner discounts on presentation of the Matkahuolto Pensioner Card.
